STATS SO FAR: the enormous numbers after six rounds and what lies ahead in 2022
Six rounds done, six to go – what are the stats saying after the first half of the season, and what are they predicting for the second half?
It’s been a record-breaking season so far in the 2022 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship and there’s plenty more still to come. From massive manufacturer milestones to personal achievements and making history, the paddock has seen some incredible racing and more is to come. What’s already been achieved and what’s on the horizon? We put it all in one place!
ACHIEVED SO FAR: 2022 has been relentless
1052 – With his 57 points scored at Most, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) has now scored over 1000 points for Yamaha, the fourth rider to achieve this after Noriyuki Haga, Fabrizio Pirovano and Michael van der Mark.
1002 – Ducati’s 1000th podium was achieved by Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) with a win at Most in Race 1, before two more podiums saw Ducati move onto 1002.
505 – After achieving a 500th podium in WorldSBK at Donington Park Race 1, Kawasaki head into summer on 505.
230 – Jonathan Rea’s (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) third place at Most in Race 2 was his 230th WorldSBK podium, 100 clear of the next-best rider, which is double World Champion Troy Corser.
160 – With a second place at Most Race 2, a 160th podium for Spain was achieved by Bautista.
101 – Toprak Razgatlioglu gave Yamaha a 100th win at Most in the Superpole Race, whilst he made it 101 in Race 2.
55 – The #55 of Andrea Locatelli (Pata Yamaha with Brixx WorldSBK) has started 55 WorldSBK races after Race 2 at Most.
43 – Bautista is on 43 career podiums in WorldSBK after Race 2 at Most, one more than 2014 World Champion Sylvain Guintoli.
37/2 – Assen Race 2 was the 37th time in WorldSBK history that five different manufacturers completed the top five in a race – Alvaro Bautista won for Ducati ahead of Andrea Locatelli on a Yamaha, Iker Lecuona on a Honda, Alex Lowes on a Kawasaki and Scott Redding on a BMW at Assen this year. In WorldSSP at Most in Race 2, five manufacturers were inside the top five too: Lorenzo Baldassarri won for Yamaha, Nicolo Bulega was second for Ducati ahead of Triumph’s Stefano Manzi, Kawasaki’s Can Oncu and Bahattin Sofuoglu on the MV Agusta. This was the first time since Monza 2007 that it had happened.
24 – Entering the all-time top ten for WorldSBK wins and equalling Carlos Checa’s tally, Razgatlioglu has 24 race wins.
17 – After finishing inside the top ten in his first 17 races, Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) suffered a first retirement of his WorldSBK career with two laps to go in Most’s Race 2.
7 – Scott Redding (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) became the seventh rider to score more than one podium for BMW with third in Race 1 at Most, joining Marco Melandri, Leon Haslam, Chaz Davies, Tom Sykes, Michael van der Mark and Troy Corser.
6 – At all six circuits so far in 2022, the outright lap record has been broken.
1 – For the first time since the three-race format was introduced in 2019, we had a round where all three races saw a change in position for the lead on the last lap. In short, the rider who crossed the line to start the last lap didn’t go on to win the race. That happened at Estoril.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR: Part 2 of 2022
4000 – Jonathan Rea, with 12 points at Magny-Cours in Race 1, will achieve 4000 points during his time at Kawasaki.
900 – WorldSBK will hit a landmark 900 races in 2022, with it currently scheduled for Race 1 at Mandalika.
850 – 14 more podium places for British riders will put the UK on 850 in WorldSBK.
650/185 – With one more pole position, Ducati can achieve their 185th pole position in WorldSBK. With three more front row starts after Superpole, they’ll be on 650.
400 – With four more podiums places, Honda will have achieved 400 WorldSBK podiums.
375 – Yamaha currently have 369 podium places, meaning they’re almost certain to hit 375 before the end of the European part of the season.
350 – Currently on 349, the next time there’re three different manufacturers on the podium will be the 350th time in WorldSBK that it has happened.
250/150 – Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) will start his 250th race in 2022, whilst Razgatlioglu and Michael Ruben Rinaldi (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) will make it to their 150th.
100 – Two more fastest laps for Rea and he will have hit 100 in WorldSBK.
62 – Two more wins for Spain in WorldSBK and they level with Japan on 62 and fifth in the all-time rankings.
30 – Six more wins in 2022 and Toprak Razgatlioglu will hit 30 for his career, making him the ninth rider to achieve this. He’d also become the most successful Yamaha rider in WorldSBK in terms of wins.
